About the Episode

In this special episode of Behind the Forecast, meteorologist Matthew Cappucci joins AEM’s Chelsea Ingram for a candid, wide-ranging conversation about what it really takes to communicate weather risk in an era of social media noise, algorithm-driven attention, and increasingly severe events.

As a long-time contributor to the Washington Post Capital Weather Gang, senior meteorologist at MyRadar, veteran storm chaser, and former television personality, there are few meteorologists who see the field as clearly—or as honestly—as Matthew
.

You’ll hear him unpack:

  • Why traditional weather communication is breaking down—and what’s replacing it
  • How AI and machine learning are reshaping forecasting (and where human judgment still matters)
  • What storm chasing reveals about decision-making, safety, and public trust
  • Why resilience requires more than rebuilding the same way after every disaster
